The solar cooker/fruit tree projects aim to reduce wood burning and carbon emissions, utilizing solar cookers manufactured in Uganda. By burning less wood, and introducing mango and avocado trees to local schools and communities, several key objectives are achieved:
- Schools are saving upwards of 95% on the cost of wood delivery.
- Students are able to remain in class more of the time as they are not required to physically harvest wood.
- Forests and ecosystems are not disturbed.
- Cooks no longer prepare meals in smoky kitchens.
- Fruit from trees can be eaten by the beneficiaries, with the remaining harvest sold to people in neighboring communities.
-
Entrepreneurial trainings help beneficiaries with the skills they need to manage the plantings and encourage economic growth.
